Here’s a Concept:
This afternoon Bobby and I started our fall workout routine. At first the idea of running and getting sweaty and then returning to work minus a shower sounded digusting, but seriously, get beyond that. Honestly, by the time we leave enough time to change our clothes, we are really only running a maximum of what 40-45 minutes? And let’s not forget that we are not necessarily running at race pace.
When I got the email from Bobby yesterday asking me if I was interested, there was no hesitation. This was exactly what I needed to add to my routine, especially in light of the start of school. I had found that in order to balance my employment with the demands of grad school, I was really shafting my running routine. I am sorry to say that last week I did not maintain my drinking and running ratio. (For those of you who are unfamiliar, since about April I have made it a point to keep my running and alcohol consumption in check. I manage this byb only allowing myself to have as many drinks over the course of a week as I have run 1.5 mile increments).
What did I find when I broke this golden ratio last week? I was crabby, stressed, more tired, and feeling badly that I had not exercised. Today was already a good start. Bobby and I ran along the river and over the Mass Ave bridge to the Cambridge vicinity. If you were not outside you really missed out, because it was 70 degrees and sunny! I am home tonight from a day of work that started at 7 AM, followed by a 2.5 hour statistics class, and I am still ready to do something active after I eat dinner. Honestly, I feel like lifting tonight or maybe just getting ahead on some of that reading that is due Monday. I can’t let this new-found energy go to waste! So… do something worthwhile on your lunchbreak other than eating. Eating is for when you are sitting at your desk “working”!
